AEROSAFE-Trapezstangen mit Gummikante

AEROSAFE-Trapezstangen von Finsterwalder werden von renommierten Drachenherstellern in Italien, Frankreich, England, USA und Australien eingesetzt und sind daher weltweit erhältlich. Häufigste Verletzung beim Drachenfliegen sind Armbrüche, zu denen es kommt, wenn der Pilot bei Crashlandungen gegen den Steuerbügel fällt. Bei AEROSAFE Trapezstangen ist die Profilhinterkante gepolstert und die Trapezstange ist in Längsrichtung nur 1,5 mal steifer als in Querrichtung. So wird der Pilot schonend abgefangen, wobei sich die zähharte Legierung stark verformt (Gewicht nur 520 g/m).

Ein weiterer wesentlicher Sicherheitsfaktor der AEROSAFE Gummihinterkanten ist, daß sie die Drachenkontrolle beim Start entscheidend verbessern. Man kann die Trapezstangen besser umfassen, sie liegen bequem an den Schultern auf und ermöglichen selbst mit Handschuhen einen sicheren Griff. Spätestens wenn Sie versuchen, durch den Integralhelm in die Hände zu spucken, werden Sie sich AEROSAFE Trapezstangen wünschen! Sofern Ihr Drachen nicht ohnehin schon mit AEROSAFE ausgerüstet ist, kann er mittels Anschlußstücken meist auf die preisgünstigen AEROSAFE Trapezstangen umgerüstet werden.

Service & Checks for hanggliders

Drachenfliegen ist nicht gefährlich - sofern man erkennbare Gefahren vermeidet
Dazu gehört die sorgfältige Wartung der Ausrüstung.
Spätestens nach 5 Jahren Betriebszeit müssen Drachen einem gründlichen Werkscheck unterzogen werden. Im Anschluss daran sind Checks im 2 Jahres Rhythmus vorgeschrieben. Diese Vorschrift hat sich als sehr sinnvoll erwiesen, da Nachlässigkeit bei der Pflege der Flugsportausrüstung ernste Folgen haben könnte.
Vorteilhafte Werksüberprüfungen
Auch wir lernen permanet dazu, wenn wir unsere Drachen nach längerem Gebrauch in die Werkstatt bekommen.Der Sicherheit förderliche Verbesserungen rüsten wir im Rahmen der Werksüberprüfung automatisch nach.
Der Arbeitsablauf einer Überprüfung ist bei uns genau geregelt (siehe Nachprüfprotokoll). Wir arbeiten dadurch effektiv und kostensparend.
Das Kurzpacksystem macht unsere "Fexe" sehr versand- und servicefreundlich. Unsere fairen Servicepreise begründen den hohen Wiederverkaufswert und die Beliebtheit unserer Drachen.
Servicekosten
Die Checkgebühr beträgt € 95,- (incl. MwSt.)
Die Arbeitsstunde (Segelmacherei und Werkstatt) berechnen wir mit € 45,- (incl. MwSt.)
Auch Edelstahldrahtseile können korrodieren/verspröden. Unabhängig vom Zustand müssen Verspannungen daher auf Grund ihres Alters ausgetauscht werden:
Unterverspannungen alle 4-6 Jahre, Oberverspannungen alle 7-8 Jahre.
Ersatzteilpreislisten finden Sie in den Betriebshandbüchern. Sie müssen jedoch mit 2% Preissteigerung/Jahr rechnen.
Sollten die voraussichtlichen Reparaturkosten in die Nähe des Zeitwerts des Drachen kommen, werden wir Sie jedenfalls kontaktieren.

Hanggliding is not dangerous - as long as one avoids discernible dangers
This includes careful maintenance of equipment.

After 5 years of use, hanggliders must undergo a thorough works inspection. After the first 5-year check, checks are required every 2 years. This regulation has proven very sensible, as negligence of sport aviation equipment can have serious consequences.

Advantageous works inspection 
We are also constantly in a learning process when we recieve our gliders back in the workshop after many years of usage. We automatically upgrade during the works inspection in accordance with safety demands.

The operating sequence of an inspection in exactly defined by us (see inspection sheet). In this way we work efficiently and cost effectively.

The short pack system makes our hanggliders very service friendly and lowers freight costs. Our fair service costs are one of the reasons for the high resale value and popularity of our gliders.

Service costs
The labour costs (sail-maker and workshop) are € 45,- (incl. VAT)
The check fee is € 95,- (incl. VAT)
Stainless steel swaging can also corrode/become brittle. Independent of their condition, rigging/swaging must be replaced due to age:
Lower rigging every 4-6 years, Upper rigging every 7-8 years.

A list of hangglider spares can be found at the back of the owner's manual. An annual inflation rate of 2% should be calculated.

Tips for checks

  • If possible deliver the glider packed short. This saves us time, and you expense.
  • Please draw our attention to necessary sail repairs.
  • Try to plan the inspection at the end of the flying season.
  • Inspections between March and October take longer as a rule.
  • A repair comission should accompany the glider.

 

 

Perfex

Perfection in light-weight construction. One of our most successful gliders in terms of outstanding performance (for a floater) and wonderful handling. No surprise that the Perfex as with the Lightfex recieved top marks by test reports.
 
Unique for all floaters are the fittings: Perunal tubing for glider-frame and sail battens, aerodynamic A-frame, king-post and sundry fittings as well as a perfectly profiled leading edge with mylar reinforcing and nose fairing.

Obwohl einer der leichtesten Drachen überhaupt, verträgt der Lightfex aufgrund seiner hohen Materialqualität härtesten Übungshangeinsatz.
Our floater for light pilots has performance data which can otherwise only be matched by good intermediate gliders.
 
It's agility makes almost effortless flying possible, yet in spite of this there is no tendency whatsoever to yaw, which means that less experienced pilots feel well in control of the Lightfex. Although on of the lightest weight gliders available, the Lightfex due to it's high quality construction and materials can bear the brunt of the hardest of days on the practise hill.

The minimal weight abd good flight characteristics of the Funfex have become almost legendary over the years. Today the Funfex is still unbeatable when it comes to experiencing a maximum of enjoyment in the air with a minimum of effort.
 
The reason for this is the often copied (but never achieved) design which combines a low aspect ratio with astonishing performance.

Airfex

Der Intermediate für Einsteiger. Mit nur 23 kg viel leichter als andere Doppelsegelgeräte ist der Airfex ideal für zierliche Piloten im Gewichtsbereich zwischen 50 und 70 kg.
Statisch ausgewogen und ausgerüstet mit einem handlichen Trapez hat er ein unübertroffenes Bodenhandling. Hervorzuheben ist auch sein einfaches Landeverhalten.
The intermediate glider for new pilots, the Airfex is much lighter than other double surface gliders (23 kg) an thus ideal for smaller pilots with a weight of between 50 and 70 kg.
 
Statically fully balanced and equiped with a smaller handier A-frame, the Airfex is unbeatable when it comes to ground handling. Also worth mentioning are the easy landing characteristics of this glider.

The Finsterwalder Snap-Lock System

 

gestaengeFinsterwalder gliders consist of 7 related construction groups which can be easily fitted together without teh use of tools, thanks to the self-securing connections.
Insertion connections are color-coded. Incorrect rigging is technically impossible.
The Snap-Lock System has proven itself over the last 15 years in over 1000 gliders and has been continously developed and improved.
Protruding parts that would otherwise have to be padded, have been eliminated from the construction.

The curved nose plate made from flexible perunal makes the Fexes damage resistant. The sail is attached to the middle underside of the plate by means of a special bracket. As the nose plate is relatively wide, the leading edges of the sail are powerfully tightened when the wings are spread apart. In combination with the mylar inserts this results in a clear taut airfoil.
 - A special snap fastening wih automatic locking for the lower rigging is integrated on the underside.
- Specially produced nuts and bolts are designed to keep sail abrasion
 
 
A-frame attachment
The forged aircraft aluminium of these connection parts is hard and tough. In combination with the joint contruction, a high level of damage resistance has been achieved.
This means more safety and keeps repair costs low.
The multiple joint makes it possible to fold up the A-frame without having to dismantle it.
 
Control bar corner
The control bar corners are also suitably robust. Rigging wire linkage is integrated (aerodynamically advantageous).
The uprights can be exchanged without the use of tools and without dismantling the rigging wires.
The Aerosafe®/Aerofoil® uprights have a 6° inner tilt so that they are hit head on by the air flow.
The uprights (an important replacement part) can be used on the left and right hand sides.
The Speedbar can be removed with one handhold by means of a self securing fastening integrated in the control bar corners. Mounting of wheels is thus simplified.
The Speedbar is secured by an internal cable.
 
 

Aerosafe® A-frame uprights
The patented uprights with the rubber trailing edge, which were designed by Finsterwalder, are light-weight (520 g/m), aerodynamically excellent and improve glider control when launching. They can be gripped well when wearing gloves, are non-slip and comfortable for the shoulders.
Above all however, they greatly reduce the risk of upper arm breakage that occurs regularly with airfoil uprights by crash landings.
The AS airfoils are constructed from tough aluminium alloy and allow slightly bent tubes to be straightened. If required, the airfoil uprights can be strengthened by inserting reinforcing tubes.
The relatively inexpensive AEROSAFE® and AEROFOIL® substitute uprights are also available for a multitude of gliders from other manufacturers. Adapter pieces for various gliders are also available.

King-post
The pilot hang-in strap on the king-post can be swoopped without the use of tools by means of secured rapid lock. Various sizes are available. The king-post hang-in reduces the amount of energy required when turning and eases landing.
The aerodynamic king-post airfoil manufactured specially for Finsterwalder is characterised by it's especially low weight of 417 g/m.
In the bottom of the king-post a rubber joint has been intgrated which maintains the king-post in an upright position whilst mounting. The king-post can be inserted into the keel tube giving 3 different trim positions.
The aerodynamically shaped king-post head plug has been manufactured in such a way that creases or bends in the rigging wires are avoided, and the upper wires can be easily exchanged.
 
 
Detent button locking for front and side upper rigging
By means of the specially developed Snap-Lock System, the rigging wires can be attached to the airframe in a matter of seconds. They are reliably secured to prevent twisting around and inadvertent release. To unhook, a button must be pressed.

A detent button prevents unlocking and twisting around of the fastening for as long as the rigging wires remain loose.
 
 
 
 
Sail battens
The super light-weight sail batten tubes made from perradur have been finished especially for Finsterwalder.
They are shaped by a bending process developed by our company. They are characterised by high non-deformability. Corrective bending is not usually necessary.
The outer battens are spring-mounted.
Some of the battens are separable to allow for packing the glider down to 2 metres.
 
On the left: Flexible intermediate pieces made from fibreglass provide for a better adaption of the airfoil to speed changes and improve steering characteristics.
 
Sail
The sail with mylar leading edge reinforcement has been constructed so as to be removable from the airframe without the use of tools in a matter of minutes and hence for the 2 m short pack measurement and for repairs. The sail is folded over the leading edge according to the sketch.
The mylar inserts ensure that the airfoil shape is maintained and prevents creases and bends even after years of usage.
The top sail is generally made from white Finsterwalder AIRCLOTH Dacron 110 g/m². This is a hangglider sailcloth specially manufactured for Finsterwalder which maintains it's shape thanks to a particularly fine weaving method and not due to impregnating or tempering. Manufacturing this cloth is quite time consuming, but one achieves a sailcloth that is extremely crease resistant, pliable, light-weight and long-lasting.
160g/m² dacron surf and sail cloth is used for optional reasons for the lower sail and leading edge, available in the colors shown on our color sail card. You can piece together your dream sail free of extra charges (delivering time 4-8 weeks) or ask about the sail we have on stock.

 

The features of the Fexes

Three reasons, why Finsterwalder gliders are so popular:

star1   Good flight  characteristics

Good flight characteristics are a result of the optimum functioning together of many different construction components: Sail cut, elasticity of the sail battens and leading edge tubes, geometry of the glider frame...

Years of optimising at the Finsterwalder works have resulted in an optimum mix of the Fexes.

As opposed to competition hanggliders, that achieve their performance with a high aspect ratio and pay the price in terms of poorer handling, Finsterwalder's concept for allround hanggliders is for a relatively compact surface furnished with an anhedral. In this way performance is achieved by minimal batten cross-setting. This special concept makes it possible, to combine excellent flight characteristics with astonishingly high performance.

Due to the trouble-free turning characteristics and the advantages of the anhedral when thermalling, even less experienced pilots can achieve good performance with the Fexes.
In the meantime the Finsterwalder concept for intermediate gliders has been copied frequently, but to date never bettered.

All Finsterwalder gliders can be packed down small to 2,00 x 0,35 x 0,25 m with the Snap-Lock System as well as the usual lengths of 5,50 m and 3,80 m.

The Snap-Lock System has been perfected over many years by Finsterwalder, the sail is removed from the glider frame. This is especially long lasting for the sail and makes possible the use of stiffned leading edges.
The Snap-Lock System with specially developed quick release fasteners designed by Finsterwalder makes it possible to dismantle or assemble the glider without the use of tools within 10-20 minutes.

The Snap-Lock System is very advantageous when it comes to transporting, storing, checking and repairing.

star3   Unbeatable light and sturdy

Thanks to high quality materials and a technically mature construction, the DHV-test runs were unable to damage the Fexes even by top speeds.
Years of hard usage in flight schools have shown, that despite the considerably lighter weight and the short pack possibility our Fexes are just as sturdy as any other glider on the market. All construction parts have proven their longevity. Thanks to their high quality used Fexes have a high resale value.

We use only seamless drawn tubing from 7075 T6 alloy with a stregth of 650 N/mm² of special dimensions prepared for Finsterwalder. Those tubes are eddy current-tested, mechanically polished and anodised internally and externally.
All Fexes are delivered with super light-weight airfoil AEROFOIL® and AEROSAFE® king post and A-frame uprights and forged, aerodynamically shaped fittings from avitation aluminium.

Suitable for control bar corners ø 28,5 mm (1,125'). Inner-ø 25,1 mm, suitable for wheel insert-axles, high strength aircraft aluminium (Avional), mechanically polished, hence very light weight and robust. Rubber mantled in the grip area. Overhang 14 cm.
